As soon as the first students walk into the classroom my CT has them already in class mode. They instantly take out their scientist notebooks and read the objectives for the day that are displayed on a whiteboard at the front of the classroom. She begins the lesson by briefly reviewing what they went over last time and then reiterating the very last piece of information that she gave to them. After asking if any of them have any questions on the previous material she goes right into the next lesson for the day. During her lesson my CT is amazing at engaging the students. She uses a lot of real life examples and ties the lesson to things that they can relate to whenever possible. For example, she was teaching a lesson about equal and opposing forces, and she had the students arm wrestle each other to see which of them had more force. This was not only a lesson that engaged the students but it also broke up the monotony of note taking and staring at the powerpoint. If homework was due for that day the students hand in their scientist notebook which holds all handouts, notes, labs, classwork, and homework to the teacher. She then reviews them and grades them all to be handed back to them the next day. Overall I am extremely impressed and grateful to be working with such an effective and experienced teacher that really knows how to draw her students in. I can tell she is going to force me to raise the bar for myself when it comes to how I teach and engage the students when I student teach.
